NEW YORK (Reuters) - Lindsay Lohan was arrested on Wednesday after a pedestrian told police that her car struck him as the "Mean Girls" actress was driving into a hotel in New York, New York City police said.

Lohan's vehicle clipped a 34-year-old man in an alley, around 2:30 a.m., police told Reuters, and the man later went to a nearby hospital saying he had an injured knee.

The 26-year-old actress, who has been in and out of court, rehab and prison since a 2007 drunk driving arrest in Los Angeles, was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident. Police arrested her as she left the Dream hotel in lower Manhattan.

She was charged with a misdemeanor and released, the New York police department's Office of Public Information said.

Lohan's spokesman in Los Angeles said he believed the claims would not be proved.

"While some of the facts are still being gathered, it appears that this is much ado about nothing. We are confident this matter will be cleared up in the coming weeks and the claims being made against Lindsay will be proven untrue," spokesman Steve Honig said in a statement.

Celebrity website TMZ.com, quoting sources at the hotel, said surveillance video of the incident made it hard to tell whether Lohan's car made contact with the pedestrian or, if it did, how hard.

The New York Daily News identified the man as Jose Rodriguez, a cook who was leaving his workplace, the adjacent Maritime hotel, when the incident occurred.

A Los Angeles judge released Lohan from formal probation in March, but she was instructed to obey all laws until 2014. A conviction in the New York case could trigger a violation of those conditions.

Lohan, who rose to fame as a child star in the 1990s, has been trying to make a comeback after her once promising movie career was derailed. She stars as screen legend Elizabeth Taylor in a Lifetime TV movie, "Liz & Dick," due to air in November.

Lady Gaga Teases Lindsay Lohan on Twitter: 'Are Those My Earrings?'

The actress had posted a photo in the sparkly accessories on the same day she learned that she would not be charged with a $100,000 jewel theft.

Lady Gaga had a little fun at pal Lindsay Lohan's expense on Wednesday morning. The pop diva tweeted, "@lindsaylohan ummmm are those my earrings??? this is awkward...:) kiss kiss chateau bunny." Gaga was referencing a photo Lohan had posted to her own account, in which the actress was wearing what appeared to be an expensive pair of diamond earrings.

Lohan's timing was questionable, considering she had learned on the same day that she would not be charged with the theft of $100,000 in jewelry from the home of her wealthy friend, Sam Magid.

To add insult to injury, Gaga couldn't have known that the "chateau bunny" was justevicted from the Chateau Marmont -- the West Hollywood hotel where she has racked up a $46,000 tab, according to TMZ.

But all is likely fine with the superstar friends: The two only recently held a slumber party at the Chateau, evidence of which Gaga posted to her online fan community, LittleMonsters.com.

Lindsay Lohan won’t be charged in jewelry theft

Lindsay Lohan has dodged a bullet yet again. The “Liz & Dick” actress will not be prosecuted for allegedly stealing $100,000 worth of watches, sunglasses, and silverware because the L.A. County District Attorney didn’t feel there was enough evidence against her. According toTMZ, eyewitnesses at the home of producer Sam Magid who implicated Lohan, her assistant Gavin Doyle, and two other male friends of hers, “refused to become involved” in the investigation. Additionally, Magid himself retracted his original story that he suspected Lohan and her pals of stealing from him. 

The DA’s decision came just hours after it was reported that Lohan was trying to blame her friend Andrew Knight, self-proclaimed son of Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight, for the crime. According to TMZ, Magid told police that he had been in contact with Knight and the other male, who informed him that the actress had given them a bag with the stolen items wrapped in a T-shirt. Although the men later returned the items to Magid, some stuff was still missing. When Magid then spoke to Lohan, she claimed she “hid” the belongings in his own home so burglars would not find them – but she also admitted to being on Ambien and therefore has a hazy memory as to where she exactly put them. Magid also told LAPD detectives that the troubled star, who is still on probation for stealing a necklace in January 2011, said to him, “I’m sorry. Please pray for me.” 

Lohan, 26, may have gotten lucky this time, but she’s still on the hook for having lied to police in Santa Monica after her June car accident in which she crashed her rented Porsche into an 18-wheeler on the Pacific Coast Highway. During questioning, Lohan insisted she wasn’t the one driving, which wasn’t the case according to witnesses and even her own assistant, who LiLo tried to say was the one behind the wheel. She reportedly later said the car’s brakes malfunctioned … another claim which was also proven false. If found guilty of lying to police, Lohan could face one year in jail.

Lady Gaga posts naked photo, Lindsay Lohan shots AND announces Machete role

Lady Gaga has announced her first film role by posting the brilliant promo photo to her website. She uploaded the shot of her in Robert Rodriguez’s film, Machete Kills, last night. She’ll be playing La Chameleon in the movie, and the director confirmed it on Twitter, saying: "I just finished working with @LadyGaga on @MacheteKills... Holy Smokes. Blown away!"

This won’t be her first acting role – she once appeared as an extra in The Sopranos – but it will be her first film role, in the sequel to Machete. Which, incidentally, starred Lindsay Lohan.

Which brings us nicely (not that they needed much introduction) to the photos Gaga has posted of her and Lindsay Lohan living it up in the Chateau Marmont. As noted in heat’s spotted section, the pair were seen out last week at the LA hotel where Lindsay used to live.

Gaga tweeted about her companion’s bizarre request for cucumber at the bar: “@lindsaylohan when you ordered a cucumber and a knife to the bar last night i thought your were gonna perform a vasectomy #justaskinnyb***h.”

She also posted a photo of the knife, the glasses and the cucumber (sounds like the title of a bizarre fairytale, doesn’t it?)

Lindsay responded: “#skinnysnack1‬ @ladygaga hahaha”

Strangely, Gaga has since deleted her tweets. But it seems everything's cool - otherwise why would Gaga post the photos? The women spent the evening hanging out and play dress-up along with model-turned-photographer Ellen Von Unwerth, who we believe took some of the photos Gaga’s posted (they look properly arty).

A source told X17Online: “[They were] watching old movies and playing board games [at the] slumber party. The three of them had dinner in the garden on Tuesday night at Chateau, and then Lindsay and Gaga ran upstairs to play dress up and came down in different outfits.”

And Lady Gaga’s photos prove it. They’re recreating old movies by dressing up in fur and tiaras, with shopping bags all around. Lindsay’s smoking (both literally smoking a ciggie and looking smoking hot) and Ellen’s playing with Lindsay’s hair – maybe braiding it?

Though they look a bit worse for wear, it’s understandable that they might have had a few drinks – what does anyone do on a girly night in?

Oh, and just in case you hadn't seen enough, these aren’t the only photos Gaga’s put online today. There’s one of her (nearly) naked in a New York hotel room after the opening of the Gaga workshop at Barney’s shop. Busy lady!
